4 East Coast Beach Getaways That Will Feed Your Spirit

Feed Your Spirit

Sometimes a beach vacation is just what you need to relax. There are plenty of areas along the East Coast that provide the soft sand, warm sun, and invigorating activities you’re looking for. Get back in touch with nature and feed your spirit at one of these four beach getaways.

Jekyll Island, Georgia

This state park has over 1,000 acres of maritime forest and 10 miles of shoreline, which make you feel like you’re worlds away from home. Jekyll Island has five beaches where you can swim, look for seashells, and sunbathe. Driftwood Beach is one of the more popular beaches. It has large, beautiful pieces of driftwood lining its shore, providing an experience you won’t find in many other places.

While you’re on the island, consider visiting the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. You can watch the workers rehabilitate the ill and injured sea turtles. You can even join them on patrols to look for newly hatched turtles.

Skaket Beach, Massachusetts

On the bayside shore of Orleans, Massachusetts lies Skaket Beach. It’s the place to go if you prefer warm, calm waters over crashing waves. It has a lifeguard on duty, bathroom facilities, and a snack bar. During low tide, you can look for sea creatures in the tidal pools. Pack a picnic to enjoy with your traveling companion, and stay until dark. The sunset views are spectacular.

When you’re not lounging on the beach, consider checking out Blue Claw Boat Tour. It can take you on a seal-watching cruise or a sunset cruise. If you have a sweet tooth, make sure to stop by Hot Chocolate Sparrow for truffles, cookies, and other treats.

Islamorada, Florida

Made up of six islands in the Florida Keys, Islamorada has the laid-back atmosphere you want for your vacation. Check out one of the oceanfront resorts and spend your days fishing, snorkeling, enjoying the local food, and relaxing by the outdoor pool.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can go scuba diving and look at shipwrecks. Movie buffs can spend an evening visiting Tropic Cinema, a nonprofit, independent film multiplex. For a luxurious getaway, book a suite or bungalow at Cheeca Lodge & Spa. You can sign up for yoga classes and pamper yourself with spa treatments.

Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

If you’re looking for a truly rustic stay, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore offers four campgrounds along the beaches. This area is home to several threatened and endangered species, such as the loggerhead sea turtle. You’ll spot a variety of wildlife on this barrier island, thanks to its mixture of salt marsh, dune, grassland, and beach habitats.

One of the best attractions on Cape Hatteras is the sky itself. Since this area is far from light pollution, the night sky is especially dark and clear, making it perfect for stargazing. You can get an even better view if you book a Full Moon Tour at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which is open from late April until early October.

Start planning your trip to one of these East Coast beach getaways. You’ll feel more energized when you go swimming, watch gorgeous sunsets, spot wild animals, and admire the stars.
